Our healthcare system is the leading cause of personal bankruptcy in the U.S. Every year, over 50 million Americans suffer adverse financial consequences as a result of seeking care, from lower credit scores to garnished wages. The challenge is only getting worse, as high deductible health plans are the fastest growing plan design in the U.S.
Cedar’s mission is to leverage data science, smart product design and personalization to make healthcare more affordable and accessible. Today, healthcare providers still engage with its consumers in a “one-size-fits-all” approach; and Cedar is excited to leverage consumer best practices to deliver a superior experience.
The Role
Our core product team builds the technology that helps patients understand, afford, and manage their healthcare costs. We're hiring engineers to own meaningful projects end to end, work with AI both in how they build and in what they build, and ship features used by millions of patients every year. You'll work on problems like bill transparency, AI-powered billing guidance, and flexible payment solutions that give patients more confidence and control over their financial journey. This role is remote across the United States.
What You'll Do
- Own projects from requirements through production release, including writing the technical design and seeing it through to launch
- Work across the full stack. Our current project mix leans backend-heavy, but frontend work is a regular part of the role
- Partner closely with product managers and designers to turn ambiguous ideas into clear technical plans, and push back on requirements when a better approach exists
- Use AI tools as a core part of your development workflow, and help build AI-powered features for patients
- Uphold engineering quality through clean, well-tested code, thoughtful PR reviews, and proactive management of technical debt
- Measure the impact of what you ship and connect it to outcomes for patients and the business
What We Look For
- 5–7 years of software engineering experience building product-facing applications
- Proficiency in a backend language (Python/Django preferred, or comparable)
- Hands-on frontend experience. React/TypeScript is a plus, but experience with another modern framework works if you're ready to ramp up
- A track record of leading projects of meaningful scope, from design through delivery
- Experience collaborating with product managers, designers, or other non-engineering partners, including pushing back on requirements with sound reasoning about systems and tradeoffs
- Hands-on experience using AI tools in your development workflow, and a genuine interest in building AI-powered products
- Strong written and verbal communication, including the ability to explain technical ideas clearly and ask sharp clarifying questions
- Comfort in fast-paced, ambiguous environments and a love of solving complex problems
- Care for the end user. You think about what matters to patients and let that shape your solutions
Nice to Have
- Experience building agentic tools or LLM-powered features
- Experience writing technical design documents and having them reviewed by peers
- Experience tracking project metrics and explaining their business impact
- Background in healthcare, fintech, or other regulated or high-stakes data environments
Compensation Range and Benefits
- Salary/Hourly Rate Range*: $170,000-$215,000
- This role offers a competitive benefits and wellness package
*Subject to location, experience, and education
